A Tribute to Phil Hartman

By Laura Montgomery

He made us laugh with his many celebrity impersonations on Saturday Night Live. Impersonations included President Clinton, Charlton Heston, Ronald Regan, Ed McMahon, Jack Nicholson and Frank Sinatra. We later grew to love his adorable character voice-overs on the TV show The Simpsons, which included Lionel Hutz ("The law-talking guy" as he puts in in one episode), Bart's big brother Tom, the actor Troy McClure and let us not forget Lyle Lanly, the guy who sold a monorail to Springfield.

In recent years, he has been a permanent fixture on the hit TV series, Newsradio as the vain newsman Bill McNeal. He kept us laughing with his "What's the deal with Bill McNeal?" reports. He will be sadly missed.

We can all take comfort in the fact that he will live on, both in our hearts (when we are being funny ourselves), and he will live on in reruns of Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons and Newsradio.

Rest In Peace, Phil.
